. A Melzo (che si trova vicino a Milano) infatti non
c'è il mare, ma solo terra e parliamo quindi di “Porto Secco” o, meglio, di Centro Intermodale.
In questa grande struttura sono presenti uno scalo ferroviario, una Dogana e ottimi collega-
menti con strade ed autostrade; i container arrivano qui viaggiando su lunghi treni (che
partono invece dai porti marittimi o altri centri intermodali) facendo risparmiare tempo e
riducendo inquinamento e traffico (ogni treno in più equivale a decine di camion in meno
sulle strade). I camion però servono eccome. Dal centro intermodale, i container vengono
infatti smistati fino alla loro destinazione finale che potrà essere un magazzino, una fabbrica o un
centro di distribuzione.
Qui a Melzo c’è la sede della Contship Italia Spa e se vieni a visitarci potrai trovare anche tutte le aziende del gruppo
che si occupano di logistica e intermodalità.

Melzo Team
is the
Earth
team. In Melzo (near Milan) there is no sea, only land, so we call it a "dry port" or
intermodal centre. Inside this enormous structure there is a railway terminal, a customs house and excellent road
and motorway links; containers arrive here on long trains from maritime ports or other intermodal centres, saving
time and reducing traffic and pollution (one train can transport the same as dozens of trucks on the road). Trucks
still have their uses, though. At the intermodal centre containers are re-routed to their final destination, which could
be a warehouse, a factory or a distribution centre.
The headquarters of Contship Italia Spa is here in Melzo, and if you come to visit, you'll also find all the companies
in the group that handle logistics and intermodality.
